Relay For Life Unites DePauw With Putnam County
DePauw University’s Relay For Life committee is collaborating with elementary schools in Putnam County as DePauw prepares to host the annual fundraising event. The committee contacted local schools to help decorate bags for the event’s luminaria candle ceremony. Event Co-Chair Tyler Archer says he hopes this will help get the Greencastle community involved even further in this year’s event.
ARCHER: "The elementary school students decorated the bags and then now they’re available for sale so people can have them. So, just trying to do something a little bit different, get the community involved, and hopefully reach some new audiences."
The 24 hour long event is a fundraiser for local cancer patients and research facilities. The committee encourages DePauw students as well as local schools, businesses, and places of worship to form teams to participate at the event together. Archer says that Relay is one of the largest events that the community and school organize together.
ARCHER: "So we have all these people that come together and it’s really good to see people break down these barriers and do things together."
Relay for Life will be held from noon on April 30th to noon on May 1st at Blackstock Stadium.
