DePauw awarded 3-Year Grant to Reduce Domestic Violence
The U.S Department of Justice awarded DePauw a 3-year grant of $300,000 “to reduce or eliminate domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking”. The grant will last from now through October, 2013. One of the main objectives of the grant will be to fund equipment for Greencastle law enforcement and other services for victims of violence. Putnam County Family Support Services will benefit from employee training provided by the grant. In addition the grant will provide scholarships for three Putnam County Hospital health workers to attend Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners training. The grant will also permit for a higher level of programming on DePauw’s campus as well as the creation of the Violence Intervention/Prevention Project, which is under supervision by DePauw’s Cultural Resource Center director, Jeannete Johnson-Licon. The grant will benefit the DePauw campus and Greencastle community in funding domestic violence awareness and promoting safe and healthy relationships.
